Cyber Security Analyst

Help protect our clients' environments — monitoring for threats, responding to incidents, and strengthening security posture across a range of managed IT environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor client environments for security alerts, unusual activity, and potential threats across endpoints, networks, and cloud platforms.
  • Investigate and triage security incidents, following established procedures to contain, remediate, and document each case.
  • Support the administration and tuning of security tooling, including endpoint detection and response (EDR), SIEM, and email security platforms.
  • Assist with vulnerability management — running scans, tracking remediation, and reporting on outstanding risk.
  • Support security configuration and hardening of Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, including conditional access, MFA, and identity protection.
  • Contribute to incident response plans and help coordinate the response when a client security event occurs.
  • Produce clear reports and summaries for clients, translating technical findings into practical recommendations.
  • Keep up to date with the current threat landscape and flag emerging risks that may affect our clients.
  • Work closely with the support and infrastructure teams to ensure security is built into day-to-day operations, not bolted on afterwards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of security configurations, incidents, and client environments.
  • Uphold Liyatech's standards around information security, data protection, and client confidentiality in everything you do.
  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested.

What we're looking for

This role suits someone who is naturally curious, methodical, and calm when things go wrong. We don't expect you to have seen it all before — what matters most is a sharp eye for detail and a genuine interest in how systems get attacked and defended. Beyond that, we're looking for someone who brings:

  • A genuine interest in cyber security and how it protects the businesses and people who rely on technology
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills — you can work through an incident methodically under pressure
  • Clear communication skills — able to explain technical risk to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Good organisational skills and a proactive approach to managing alerts and open cases
  • A collaborative approach — you work well with others and escalate appropriately when needed
  • Reliability and discretion — you can be trusted with sensitive information and follow through on commitments

It would be a bonus, but is not essential, if you also have:

  • Previous experience in a security operations, SOC, or similar analyst role
  • Familiarity with Microsoft security tooling, including Defender, Sentinel, or Entra ID
  • Exposure to frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or the MITRE ATT&CK framework
  • An interest in pursuing security certifications such as Security+, SC-200, or similar (we'll support you to get there)
We don't expect you to tick every box. If you meet most of what's listed above, we'd still love to hear from you.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you'll need:

  • A Matric / National Senior Certificate (Grade 12), or equivalent
  • 2+ years' experience in cyber security analysis
  • A relevant qualification or diploma/degree in IT, Cyber Security or a related field

Advantageous:

  • Prior experience in security tooling, including endpoint detection and response (EDR), SIEM, and email security platforms
  • Cyber Security certifications or progress towards them
  • Experienced in Endpoint protection management platforms (e.g. Sophos, Microsoft or similar)
